The Marbol fountain, a distortion of Marktborre, is mentioned in the oldest known city account of 1392-1393, and is the oldest Gothic fountain in our province.
It received its water from the Oudenberg. The original sandstone octagonal column, with trefoil recesses under the triangular façade element and pinnacle crowning, moved to the courtyard of the hospital in 1935. The current copy is markedly higher than the original.
